To reduce the chance of warpage, I built the top by 'joining' three narrower boards. Had I chosen to use a single
wider board, the shelf may have warped over time. I gave the corners a nice big radius and also added a 'bead' detail to the top and bottom edges of the shelf.
The monogram on the back and horse heads were cut using a scroll saw. The horse heads were left-over from cutting out silouettes
on the two mounting brackets.

This picture shows the silouettes on the brackets. The brackets were purchased (pre-cut and without the silouette) from a lumber supply store.
They included key-hole hanging hardware on the back but one thing I noticed was that the edges were not square. To square them,
I made two light passes on my Joiner (after removing the hardware of course). Two screws attach each bracket to the top. The holes
were later filled and sanded smooth.

The back is also solid pine. The monogram was layed out and cut using a scroll saw. As mentioned before, the two
horse heads from the bracket cutouts were glued to the back. I just couldn't see tossing them.

Here is a detail view of the scroll work. The pencil marks from the layout were later sanded away.
